Nova Scotia-Style Creamy Lobster

This dish has been passed down by my father.  It’s the way lobster is traditionally prepared in his hometown of Yarmouth, NS.  It’s the way I was introduced to lobster and is still my favourite method of preparing and eating it.  It’s not exactly my dad’s recipe–traditionally you keep and use the liquids from the lobster in the sauce, but this makes it too “fishy” for my family,  so we keep the flavour lighter and just use the meat.  If you love that lobster taste though, by all means go ahead and use it.  And, oh yes, I made this on the grill.  Our grill has a side burner, which worked beautifully, but you can put your skillet right on the grill and do it that way. Meal Plan for the Week of May 12, 2018

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms following the blog!  This weekend I am celebrating on Saturday and Sunday with two things I love that just don’t go on sale very often but are this week: rack of lamb and lobster.  I’m not bothered about being taken out for dinner.  We can eat well at home and enjoy the nice weather in the backyard.  Wednesday night I’m babysitting for friends so they can go out and enjoy a birthday dinner and a movie, so as has become traditional, the boys have pizza when I’m out.  Finally, Friday is my husband’s birthday, so he gets to choose dinner.  Since every time I ask him what he wants for dinner he says “Burritos”, it’s no surprise to me that we are having burritos.

Greek Salad Quinoa Bowl

This is a really fresh, protein-packed recipe for a summer night.  To add extra protein, quinoa is substituted for the lettuce.  The real beauty of a recipe like this, though, is the way you can personalize it, not only to suit your family’s needs, but to suit the individual family member’s needs.  We prepare the basic ingredients and let everyone assemble their own dinner. Because there are a few different preparations happening the recipe format is a little different this week. Continue reading

Meal Plan for the Week of May 5, 2018

Sorry this Plan is a little late this week.  They was a delay in getting my grocery flyers, and then I had needed to figure out whether or not I would have a grill to use this week.  Our old grill died a graceful death (not really, the bottom fell out of it!) after a moderately long but extremely productive life.  Since I make it a rule not to turn use the oven from, roughly, the May long weekend until about October, it is getting pretty critical for meal planning.  And with gorgeous weather in the forecast for the coming week, grilling is definitely in the Plan.  BBQ Achieved!
