Italian Dressing

Making your own salad dressing is a great way to cut down on hidden salt and sugar in your diet.  Manufactured salad dressing is a huge source of hidden sugar, and it’s completely unnecessary.  A salad with fresh veggies, or even fruit, which is a favourite salad ingredient of mine, will have plenty of bursts of sweet, you don’t need it in your dressing.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp Italian Seasonings
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp water

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and shake well

Tips

  • Use any kind of vinegar you have in the house.  Mix it up and use a different kind of vinegar every time you make it to get different flavour profile.
  • This is also great used as a marinade for boneless, skinless chicken breasts.  It imparts flavour and helps keep them moist.
  • You can buy Italian Seasoning blends at your grocery store, or you can make your own using oregano, parsley, basil, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, red pepper flakes, and rosemary, or any combination of these that suits your tastes.  You can add salt into the mix too, or leave it out completely.
