Mongolian Hot Pot: Hot or Not?

Wednesday night I had a Girls’ Night with two very good friends (S and H), and I had the privilege of introducing them to the joys of Mongolian Hot Pot.  I had been one time previously and have been dreaming about going back ever since. For those of you who have never had Hot Pot, I will explain the experience to you.  And it is an experience—this is not just dinner, it is a complete food experience for the senses. The smells, the sights, the flavours—everything will tweak your brain’s happiness receptors.  This is not a meal for when you’re on a tight schedule. Plan for at least two hours of leisurely eating, and plan on leaving full. Continue reading

Meal Plan for the Week of April 14, 2018

There aren’t really any big sales this week, so I’m just making what I feel like eating. Sunday’s dinner is fully experimental–the idea came to me as I was falling asleep one night last week.  I will let you know how it turns out on the Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/Xratedfood/).  If it goes well, it will show up again in the coming weeks as a recipe link. If you have been following the Weekly Plan, you’ll see Burgers up again tomorrow night.  We’re not having them two nights in a row, though; I went to Costco today and bought a BBQ chicken, as you do when you go to Costco, so we have switched burgers out for BBQ Chicken Naan Pizza.  And finally, Friday’s Mexican Chicken and Rice will be the Recipe of the Week.  Look for that to be posted on Monday. Meal Plan for the Week of April 7, 2018

I’m getting my mobility back, so this week’s plan includes recipes that can be prepped quickly, and then left alone while they cook.  My oldest son has been enlisted to start cooking a meal a week for the family, so he will be following the recipe of the week for that night’s dinner.  This week it will be Thursday’s Beef Tortellini Minestrone with Garlic Bread and will be posted Monday morning.
